A late October snowstorm pounded the Colorado high country Wednesday, Oct. 26, with Arapahoe Basin and Loveland ski areas reporting 12 inches of new snow by mid-morning.

Snowmaking crews have created an 18-inch base, enabling the area to open for the season this week. Opening day is Oct. 13, with skiing on one run served by the Black Mountain Express quad. Tickets are $59.
