10 reasons to ski in Colorado this winter

With Colorado's major ski areas all set to open within the next few weeks, it's time to take a look at what's new for the 2013-14 winter season. According to Colorado Ski County USA, nearly every area in the state has invested in some upgrades to improve services for skiers and snowboarders, including significant snowmaking and grooming additions, new large scale drinking and dining facilities, and luxury resort lodging renovations — all designed to maintain Colorado’s reputation as the top destination for a world class guest experience.

The ‘greening’ of the ski industry continues

The National Ski Areas Association releases its annual environmental report, highlighting progress towards sustainability goals. More than 100 ski areas around the country have endorsed the Climate Declaration, calling upon federal policymakers to take action to address climate change, and stating that addressing climate change is one of the greatest economic opportunities of the 21st century.

I-70 upgrades will ease trip from Copper Mountain to Denver

The trip from Copper Mountain along I-70 back to Denver is about to get just a bit quicker, and a lot safer. Colorado Department of Transportation officials say the new three-lane section of freeway at the Twin Tunnels area, near Idaho Springs, is set to open within the next few weeks. Along with a new lane through the tunnel, the project also included improvements to the highway between the Hidden Valley exit and the bottom of Floyd Hill, a particularly curvy section of the road where mountain travelers often encountered a bottleneck after a day on the slopes.
