How about some horseback riding at Copper Mountain?

Along with the excitement of go-karting and downhill mountain biking, there's another way to experience Copper Mountain. A leisurely ride to timberline astride a big Western saddle horse will give you an entirely new perspective on the Colorado high country, as your trail guide tells you how the trappers and miners first set up camp in lush valley at the base of the resort more than 100 years ago.

Explore Colorado’s fabulous fungi at Copper Mountain

If you're hiking in the forests around Copper Mountain during the peak of the summer season, mid-July to late August, you're sure to see some of Colorado's most mysterious species dotting the forest floor. But for a small tribe of enthusiasts, Colorado mushrooms are fascinating treasure — and with names like witch's hat, hawk's wing and stinky squid, what's not to love? Learn more about Summit County mushrooms by watching this YouTube video.

Stargazing at Copper Mountain

Far from city street lamps, glaring strip malls and stadium lighting, the mountains around Copper have some of the darkest skies in the state, which makes it the perfect place for an evening of star gazing. If you're visiting from a hazy city in the Midwest or East, be sure to take your kids outside after dark for what could be the best look at the Milky Way they've ever had. And if your visit coincides with one of the periodic meteor showers that grace the skies with streaking fireballs, so much the better,

Cycling Summit County

There's good reason that Copper Mountain Resort is a hub for summer cycling events, including classic rides like the Copper Triangle and Courage Classic. But you don't have to be part of an organized tour to enjoy the high country from the saddle of a two-wheeler.
