I-70 upgrades will ease trip from Copper Mountain to Denver
The trip from Copper Mountain along I-70 back to Denver is about to get just a bit quicker, and a lot safer. Colorado Department of Transportation officials say the new three-lane section of freeway at the Twin Tunnels area, near Idaho Springs, is set to open within the next few weeks. Along with a new lane through the tunnel, the project also included improvements to the highway between the Hidden Valley exit and the bottom of Floyd Hill, a particularly curvy section of the road where mountain travelers often encountered a bottleneck after a day on the slopes.

Are you ready to ski and ride, Colorado?
If you haven't waxed your skis or snowboard yet, now's the time. The 2013-2014 Colorado ski season will officially start this Sunday, Oct. 13, with the opening of Arapahoe Basin. The Summit County ski area will operate one chair (the Black Mountain Express) serving the High Noon trail.

With another autumn snowstorm set to sweep through the Colorado Rockies, several ski area operators around Summit County are targeting mid-October opening dates. Loveland, Arapahoe Basin and Copper Mountain have all started snowmaking operations, so the ski and snowboard season will be here sooner rather than later.

Ski industry chiefs run a political slalom on Capitol Hill
The two biggest ski industry trade associations are joining forces to leverage their lobbying clout with the federal government. In late September, board members from SnowSports Industries America and the National Ski Areas Association teamed up in Washington, D.C. to meet with lawmakers — and also to discuss how to grow participation in snow sports.

Report: Snowsports industry reports gains in 2012-2013 season
As the ski industry gears up for the 2013-14 season, SnowSports Industries America has released its 2013 Snow Sports Market Intelligence Report covering last season's ups and downs. And despite the lack of early season snow in parts of the Rockies, the season overall ended on a positive note for the industry, with total sales of $3.3 billion, up about 3 percent over the previous winter.

Colorado ski areas dominate! (According to SKI Magazine readers)
Colorado ski areas once again dominated the rankings in the annual SKI Magazine readers poll, taking four of the top-10 spots, but the big surprise this year was Jackson Hole, which shot to first place on the list, ahead of perennial winners Vail, Deer Valley and Whistler-Blackcomb. Copper Mountain ended up as number 26 in the poll, which is based on feedback from skiers who visit the resorts. That put Copper a few spots behind Summit County rival Keystone (23), which also vies for Front Range families as a key part of its market.
